Ivan Vukadinov, Interior with Dog, encaustic, Bulgarian Middle Ages cycle.

Interior with Dog

(Cycle: Bulgarian Middle Ages – Fragments)
In this composition, the archaic and the everyday meet: the silhouette of a hound stands against an austere golden field, beside ritual vessels and objects. Painted in encaustic, the work evokes fragments of Byzantine and medieval iconography, while its sparse geometry speaks to timeless ritual and memory.

The Hand, Ivan Vukadinov, Cycle: Bulgarian Middle Ages – Fragments

The Hand

(Cycle: Bulgarian Middle Ages – Fragments)
A disembodied hand and the patterned garment emerge like relics from a worn surface. Vukadinov’s encaustic technique, with its corroded layers and luminous background, suggests both revelation and disappearance. The painting condenses centuries of cultural memory into a single fragment, at once archaic and modern.

Still Life (Table)

(Cycle: Matter and Time)
Here, the stark geometry of a table and vessels stands against a radiant orange ground. The encaustic surface has the density of enamel, with tones that oscillate between archaic monumentality and contemporary abstraction. The painting becomes a meditation on matter, duration, and the endurance of form.
